The Things a Brother Knows

The Things a Brother Knows
By Dana Reinhardt

F REI

Summary:

Although they have never gotten along well, seventeen-year-old Levi follows his older brother Boaz, an ex-Marine, on a walking trip from Boston to Washington, D.C. in hopes of learning why Boaz is completely withdrawn. (Taken from Titlewave.com)

Mrs. Lassley's Thoughts:

For me, this book hit very close to home. One of my closest friends became a Marine on September 10, 2001, one day before 9-11. After boot camp he was deployed and sent to Iraq. After one tour, he came back for a month leave. The friend that left and the man that returned were two very different people. He refused to talk about what he saw and did over there, and at times he was very difficult to deal with. Levi is dealing with the same thing with his brother. Dana Reinhardt has created a book that is completely relatable! If anyone is dealing with this situation, this is a must read!!!

Spring Break Reading

So...just like every Spring Break, I have the best intentions of reading all the books I bring home. And just like every Spring Break... it never happens! :-) I did get three out of the six read and I was excited about each of them. This book seems to be the one that the students were most excited about so here goes....

Angel by James Patterson
James Patterson has been able to keep the suspense up in this series, and Angel will not disappoint. With Fang gone to make his own flock, Max is at a loss at how to continue. And now with Dylan around, everything is complicated. Just like with every Maximum Ride book, someone is out to destroy the world, and it is up to Max to fix it. This is a great addition to the series, and I will be sad to see it end. The last book of Maximum Ride will be out next February and I know it is going to be great!

Sequel

If you loved Matched, then I know you cannot wait until this one comes out. Here is a little taste of what is to come:

In search of a future that may not exist and faced with the decision of who to share it with, Cassia journeys to the Outer Provinces in pursuit of Ky — taken by the Society to his certain death — only to find that he has escaped, leaving a series of clues in his wake.Cassia’s quest leads her to question much of what she holds dear, even as she finds glimmers of a different life across the border. But as Cassia nears resolve and certainty about her future with Ky, an invitation for rebellion, an unexpected betrayal, and a surprise visit from Xander — who may hold the key to the uprising and, still, to Cassia’s heart — change the game once again. Nothing is as expected on the edge of Society, where crosses and double crosses make the path more twisted than ever."

Release Date: November 1st 2011

Spring Break

Spring Break is so close I can almost taste it. It is warm outside, and I know the bluebonnets are about to start showing their beauty. And for me, that means it is time to get some reading done. Many classes have been visiting lately (which I love) so I have not been able to get very much reading done. My goal over the break is to get five books read. My list of books is longer than that, but it is worth a shot.

Here is what is on my list:
Angel by James Patterson
Desires of the Dead by Kimberly Derting
Dragonfly by Julia Golding
Ducking Ugly by Neal Shusterman
A Kiss In Time by Alex Flinn
Forgive My Fins by Tera Lynn Childs
So here is my question...what do YOU think I need to read during the break? Comment and let me know!

Spring is in the Air!

As the weather warms up I notice that it is harder and harder for me to stay inside and read. Lately it is taking me awhile to get through books and there for I am not able to recommend as much.

One of the books that I have read recently was recommended to me by another librarian and it is also on the 2011 Lonestar List.

In The Grimm Legacy by Polly Shulman, is about a New York high school student,Elizabeth, who gets an after-school job as a page at the "New-York Circulating Material Repository," and when she gains coveted access to its Grimm Collection of magical objects, she and the other pages are drawn into a series of frightening adventures involving mythical creatures and stolen goods. (Taken from Titlewave.com)

If you love fairy tales mixed in with your fiction, you MUST pick this up. Elizabeth is someone who you will relate to as well as root for. Many of Grimm's fairy tales are intertwined into story...some you will recognize and some you will not. All in all this story will add magic into your day!
